About the Site & Author
I'm a final year student at QUT University in Brisbane Australia. My degree is in Spatial Science which covers (along with other topics) land surveying, GIS, photogrammetry, and geodesy.
This collection of information has been prepared for my final year project. This resource has been quickly compiled over one semester so expect the odd hiccup.
The intention of the site is to help answer some of the common questions my friends and I have about geodesy and positioning in a way we can better conceptualise. I have endeavoured to use layman's terms, casual language and comparisons to the real world in hope that I can make this complex subject easier to understand.
There is so much more to the topic which is not included here yet. I will endeavour to add to it over time as I feel it is important for people who use geographical data/spatial data to have some understanding of reference systems to avoid potentially costly mistakes.
They say the 'Spatial Age' is coming. 'Big Data' is here and everything is becoming 'geo-referenced' in an increasingly internationally connected world. The spatial information of the past could not be designed for this international world with increasing expectation on accuracy.

People are welcome to use the information here for educational purposes but it comes with a warning - this information is not peer-reviewed & I am by no means an expert. Get your head around the basics by reading the topics in my language and then go to the links to the professionals for reliable information.
